The Future of Online Poker Rooms and Casinos

Posted under poker

With all the uproar in the online poker community about the government cracking down on the ubiquitous online poker rooms and casinos there is much doubt about the future of the industry and its ability to sustain the United States market in general. With the focus on the future of online poker rooms and casinos, there is very little concrete knowledge of what the government might have in mind for immediate plans, but it is certainly very obvious that the United States government has little use for online poker rooms and casinos. In fact, the laws and regulations that have been passed in the recent years have all but ground the business that online poker rooms and casinos do on the Internet to a halt. While dealing with this type of onslaught from the United States government is difficult enough for poker room establishments, now the United States government is talking about taxing the poker room deposits that are made by players. Considering the tax-free nature of services on the Internet, this would be a historical first step by the United States government to tax these types of services. Without any type of precedent ever being set previously, this would be a very bold step by the government and might lead to all manner of uproar with online poker room and casino players in general.

Despite all of the trouble in the past, United States poker room players are still dedicated to their craft and refuse to leave the country just to play online poker. While it is certainly more difficult to succeed and even somewhat difficult to sign up and fund the online poker room players account at sites such as Fulltiltpoker.com, players are dedicated to these poker rooms and continue to play and contribute to the ongoing battle for the right to conduct business on the Web by online poker rooms and casinos.

In the past, laws passed by the government have required websites to be established and operated from foreign locations such as Antigua, Costa Rica and Aruba, leaving United States residents out of the loop altogether on the profit end. Forbidding United States citizens from participating in the profits of online poker rooms and casinos that specifically target American citizens as customers is a very strange and hard to understand move by the government. Eliminating the ability of American citizens to share in revenue that is generated in America seems almost anti-capitalist.
